Charlotte Kennedy honoured with Mississippi Mills’ first Inspiring Youth Award

Charlotte Kennedy has been named the first recipient of Mississippi Mills’ newly created Inspiring Youth award, which was introduced in 2024 to recognize local youth between the ages of 12 and 21 who show outstanding initiative or motivate others in their community.
Kennedy, a longstanding member of the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre (MMYC), was nominated for their leadership, civic involvement, and advocacy work—both within the youth centre and across the broader community.
They played a key role in the Youth Centre’s THRIVE program, helping amplify underrepresented youth voices and contributing to a more youth-centred environment. Kennedy also helped lead the development of MMYC’s land acknowledgement, supported the organization of a Truth and Reconciliation vigil, and advocated for harm-reduction resources such as naloxone kits.
They have contributed to a number of centre initiatives, including community dinners and annual fundraisers, and have taken on public speaking roles at events such as Orange Shirt Day.
Nominators praised Kennedy for their leadership, academic performance, and commitment to social causes.
