Silver Chain Challenge returns to Lanark County for another round of friendly competition

It’s time to dust off your walking shoes and give that bike a little tune up because the Silver Chain Challenge is back for the month of June, inviting residents of Lanark County and Renfrew County to get moving, get outside, and put their steps — and pedals — towards a good cause.
According to Lanark County, the Silver Chain Challenge is more than a fitness contest; it’s a celebration of community, wellness, and the shared joy of living an active life. Throughout the month ahead, participants are encouraged to walk or bike as often as possible — all while logging their kilometres online to help their hometown claim victory in the challenge.
With real-time kilometre tracking, every metre traversed will be measure and go toward Lanark County’s total tally. At the end of the month, the county with the most kilometres logged will be crowned the most active.
“You don’t have to walk the farthest or conquer the steepest hill,” said Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon in a press release. “Just get out there with your friends and family, enjoy the beauty of your community, and log those kilometres. Every bit counts — for your health and for Renfrew’s bragging rights!”
After last year’s popular photo contest, organizers are once again encouraging participants to post their active adventures on social media and use the hashtags #SilverChainChallenge, #RenfrewCounty, or #LanarkCounty — depending on what county you’re rooting for.
Lanark County Warden Toby Randell is feeling optimistic about the 2025 challenge, sharing “We’re thrilled to once again take part in the Silver Chain Challenge. It’s a fantastic way to boost physical activity, connect with neighbours, and celebrate the incredible natural spaces we’re lucky to call home.”
